Saturday morning’s round 7 racing saw the FCC again out at VU, with a little light rain falling just before C and D Grades started proceedings. With a very strong and chilly Southerly blowing, many riders found themselves getting shelled.
A Grade riders Dom Dudkiewicz and Miles DaCosta took off at about the 30 minute mark, and had soon built up a very handy lead over the slowly dwindling chasers. Dom took the win from Miles after clearing off with a few laps to go, with Andy Bonello taking the bunch sprint behind.
In B-Grade, just down from A rider Dean Maclennan simply stayed on the front for the entire race and ground the bunch into submission, dropping all but 5 riders by the 40 minute mark. After Maclennan rolled off on the last lap, it was 29 year old Brunswick guest rider Shule Going who took the sprint from Paul Cullen and Vito DePetro, ‘Paul and I had discussed the sprint; he gave me a leadout before the last corner; that slingshot and the tailwind were perfect.’
In C-Grade, David Macpherson and Phil Tehan started a late race breakaway, which broke the chasers up; with a decent gap, Macpherson took the sprint from Tehan, with Matt Strachan doing well to chase the pair and take third place.
D Grade set a cracking pace, with the bunch working hard swapping turns, Instructor Barry Cram took the sprint from James Stuart and Tommy Gray
